Sustainability

Our Regenerative Journey
Central to our identity is belonging to the North York Moors community. As we have grown we realised that we had an opportunity to not only run a great business but to also leave our home better than we found it.
We believe in a regenerative approach, which goes beyond simply being sustainable. While sustainability aims to reduce our negative impact on the world, a regenerative approach is about creating a net-positive contribution - actively restoring and enhancing the environment, community, and economy we operate in. We are proud to be a part of the North York Moors and Visit Britain regenerative tourism pilot, and this is our commitment to you.
We are committed to "giving back more than we take." This commitment is guiding what we do, from the coffee we roast, the food we produce and to the partners we support.
Our Regenerative Scorecard
Transparency is key, it’s more difficult for us but it holds us to account. That's why we've created a simple scorecard to track our progress and share it with you. These metrics allow us to measure our positive impact in a way that is easy to understand and consistently updated.
-
Waste Diversion and Resource Recovery
We believe that "waste" is just a resource in the wrong place. We track the total amount of coffee grounds and coffee bean chaff composted or donated to local projects such as the Stepney Hill Eco Project. This turns what would be landfill waste into valuable compost for ourselves or community gardens.
-
Charitable Donations
We track the total amount of money we donate to our local charity partners. Our collaborative blends, such as the Mountain Blend and the Moors Blend, provide direct financial support to the Scarborough Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team and the North York Moors Trust, respectively.
-
Responsible Sourcing
We are committed to sourcing our green coffee from ethical partners. We track the percentage of our coffee that is certified as Direct Trade, Fair Trade, or Organic, ensuring our impact is positive all the way back to the farm.
-
Local Supplier Commitment
We actively support our local economy and reduce our carbon footprint by sourcing our supplies from nearby partners. We track the percentage of our core food and drink ingredients, such as meat, fish, and dairy, that are purchased from local producers within a set radius. This ensures we are contributing to the vitality of our regional community.
-
Responsible Consumption
Your choices make a difference. We track the number of disposable cups we save by encouraging and rewarding customers who use their own reusable cups.

Learn About Our Suppliers
Beyond our local community, our regenerative journey extends to every supplier we partner with. We prioritize sourcing locally whenever possible, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the regional economy. When a product isn't available nearby, we turn to trusted UK-based suppliers who share our commitment to quality and ethical practices. For essential items we can't source in the UK, such as chocolate, we work with the most transparent and ethical suppliers in the world, ensuring every ingredient has a story we're proud to share.

Learn About Our Coffees
Coffee can’t be farmed in the UK and so it’s very important that we build strong, lasting relationships with the farmers and importers who supply our coffee. By sourcing our beans with traceability and transparency, we ensure our impact is positive all the way back to the farm, supporting ethical labour practices and sustainable farming methods. Every cup you enjoy tells a story of these partnerships, directly connecting you to the hard work and dedication that goes into cultivating exceptional coffee.
