At the very heart of Forge Valley Roasters is our 5kg Roastmax roaster, the beating engine that powers our craft. It’s here that the true magic happens, a process where we transform raw, green beans into the balanced, aromatic coffee beans you know and love. They say coffee is produced three times: first, at the farm, where dedicated farmers meticulously grow and process the beautiful coffee cherries; again, here at our roastery, where we play our critical part in its journey; and finally, in the wonderful cup you enjoy at home or in one of our businesses.
Our Process
We operate with an intentional balance of art and science. While we rely on precise data and modern technology to guide us, every roast is also an act of creative interpretation. As those green beans tumble into the drum, we carefully create a custom roast profile designed to unlock their full flavour potential, guided by our passion and intuition. We are unyieldingly committed to this meticulous process, ensuring you get to experience the incredible freshness, character, and unique flavour that only small-batch roasting can provide. Through our work, you’re not just drinking a random coffee, you’re enjoying our interpretation of these wonderful coffees we’ve found for you.
Challenges
Building our roastery was a true test of our passion, starting from humble beginnings on a tiny Cormorant roaster in the kitchen and selling at local markets. We’ve since grown to build a micro roastery on the grounds of our cottage and now beyond. From the very beginning, our journey has been a constant process of learning and iteration, as we taught ourselves the science and art of roasting. We’ve built this business from the ground up, fueled by our endless pursuit to perfect our interpretation of every single coffee we’ve sourced, all while being supported by our incredible local community. We’ve shared much of this journey on our YouTube channel and will never be ‘done,’ continuing to pour our dedication into every bag of coffee we produce for you. Your enjoyment of the final product makes all the hard work worthwhile to us.
