Aeropress Brew Method

What is the Aeropress Method?

The AeroPress is a compact, travel-friendly brewer that combines immersion and pressure to produce a smooth, concentrated coffee.

Its unique design makes it incredibly versatile. You can experiment with different grind sizes, water temperatures, and brew times to create anything from a rich, espresso-like shot to a lighter, more delicate cup.

Lightweight and durable, the AeroPress is perfect for home use as well as for brewing on the go, whether you’re at the office, camping, or traveling. Its quick brew time and easy cleanup have earned it a loyal following among coffee lovers who value both convenience and quality.

Preparation

Brew time: 2–3 minutes

Tools you'll need:

  • AeroPress
  • Paper or metal filter
  • Groundcoffee (fine-medium)
  • Kettle
  • Digital scale
  • Stirring stick or spoon
  • Timer
  • Mug

The Process

  1. 1.

Heat water to near boiling (99°C for light roast; 90-95°C for medium; 85°C for dark). Place filter in cap (no need to rinse it), attach to AeroPress (standard position). Rinse the paper filter in your dripper, then discard the water.

  2. 2.

Add 11g coffee and place AeroPress on mug/carafe, then immediately add 200g water, aiming to wet all the grounds.

  3. 3.

Insert plunger 1cm in to create a vacuum and stop any drips then let it steep for 2 minutes.

  4. 4.

Gently swirl the AeroPress for a few seconds. Let it rest for 30 seconds more for everything to settle.

  5. 5.

Press down gently and slowly (it can take 30-45 seconds) once to the bottom pull it up just a little to prevent drips.

  6. 6.

Remove grounds, give it a clean and enjoy your brew as is, or dilute it to taste.

Tips

Too Sour or Sharp?

Solution: Increase steeping time slightly or use a finer grind.
Why: The coffee hasn’t extracted enough to bring out sweetness and balance.

Too Weak or Watery?

Solution: Use more coffee or reduce the amount of water added.
Why: The coffee-to-water ratio is too low, making the brew thin.

Too Bitter or Harsh?

Solution: Shorten steeping time or use a coarser grind.
Why: Over-extraction can quickly occur due to immersion and pressure.

Too Strong or Concentrated?

Solution: Add a bit more water after brewing (“bypass” method).
Why: AeroPress naturally makes a concentrated brew that some may prefer diluted.
