Who are the SRMRT?

The Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team is a truly extraordinary group of people. This volunteer-led, independent charity is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, ready to respond to emergencies across the North York Moors, Dalby Forest, the Yorkshire Wolds, and beyond. Imagine facing blizzards, treacherous terrain, or dark nights – these dedicated individuals are there. Their team is made up of up to 60 operational members, including doctors, paramedics, nurses, and experienced climbers, all united by a single mission: to relieve suffering and distress for those affected by accidents or natural hazards.

What makes them truly unique and utterly inspiring is that every single member is an unpaid volunteer. They receive no salary, no expenses for their training, or for the often multi-day incidents they attend. Their unwavering dedication to public safety is fueled solely by passion and community spirit. With approximately 75 callouts a year, each often involving dozens of team members, their work is demanding. Beyond rescues, they also actively engage with the community, providing vital safety talks and training for initiatives like the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

The SRMRT operates from its headquarters in Snainton, Scarborough, placing them right at the heart of the community they serve.
