The Story of Rudgate Brewery: Crafting Multi-Award-Winning Yorkshire Ales
Founded in 1992 in the heart of Yorkshire’s historic Vale of York, Rudgate Brewery was born inside the original ammunition building of the former RAF Marston Moor airfield. Named after the ancient Roman road running right through the site, the brewery drew early inspiration from nearby York’s rich Viking heritage to create its inaugural range of beers. What began as a modest craft setup quickly evolved into a renowned powerhouse, with a growing fan base and multi-award-winning brews soon pushing production past its original limits. To meet this mounting demand, a state-of-the-art, SALSA-accredited brewhouse was constructed in 2011, paving the way for expanded capacity and a hugely diverse portfolio of core ales, seasonal brews, bottles, and kegs.
Driven by a passionate team obsessed with quality, consistency, and exceptional service at every stage, Rudgate has continually evolved while staying true to its traditional roots. In 2022, the brewery ventured into new territory with the launch of its first lagers—'Pilsnor', a crisp classic Pilsner, and 'Hus', a light, fruity option—followed in 2025 by 'Ragnar', their premier vegan and gluten-free beer crafted without compromise. With over 30 years of brewing excellence under their belt, Rudgate Brewery continues to innovate, delivering the absolute finest in British craft brewing from the heart of Yorkshire to pubs and homes every single time.
